Justin’s childhood was steeped in challenges far removed from the wealth and fame associated with his brother. In an introspective interview on the Mayweather Channel, he opened up about the hardships he faced.
“I came from roaches and rats to uncovering the truth about my family background,”
he said, recounting a past filled with violence and adversity, including being shot and sustaining severe injuries.
“There’s still much to my story, and I’m not done fighting yet.”
Family Revelations
The revelation of his ties to the Mayweather family came during his teenage years, fundamentally altering his self-identity.
“I always admired Floyd; I thought he was going to be the next Muhammad Ali,”
Justin recalled. It wasn’t until he was around 15 or 16 years old that his sister informed him of their familial connection, which led to a DNA test at 19.
“I was completely taken aback because I already had siblings from my mother’s side and never expected this new layer to my identity.”
Current Relationship with Family
Despite having a relationship with his father today, Justin recognizes it lacks the deep bond that Floyd shares with their dad.
“I live with my dad now, and we have a decent relationship, but you can’t rewrite history. The connection isn’t the same as what Floyd has, who has known him his entire life. It’s just how it is.”
