Texas Tech Women’s Basketball Triumphs Over Baylor
In an impressive performance, the 20th-ranked Texas Tech women’s basketball team dominated No. 15 Baylor with a decisive 87-56 victory in Lubbock on Wednesday evening. Highlighting the Lady Raiders’ offensive display was reserve player Snudda Collins, who tallied 23 points with an efficient 9-of-15 shooting display. Supporting her efforts were Bailey Maupin who contributed 22 points, including four 3-pointers, alongside Gemma Nunez and Sarengbe Sanogo, who each added 10 points to the scoreboard.
Game Highlights
The Lady Raiders’ shooting accuracy was remarkable, as they connected on 56% of their shots (34 out of 61), contrasting sharply with Baylor’s 36% (20 of 55). Texas Tech established an early 12-6 margin by the midpoint of the first quarter and never surrendered the lead. Collins sparked the offense with a 3-pointer followed by a layup, helping to extend the lead to 22-12 by the end of the first frame, although Taliah Scott hit a 3-pointer for Baylor to close the quarter.
The second quarter saw Texas Tech extend their lead further with a strong start, including a 10-2 run fueled by two 3-pointers from Maupin, which made the score 32-17 with just under eight minutes remaining in the half. By halftime, the Lady Raiders were ahead 48-28.
Despite a slow start in the third quarter where Texas Tech missed their first five attempts, they quickly rebounded, converting five out of six shots to close the quarter at 67-44. This victory not only serves as a testament to Texas Tech’s growing strength but also marks their first season sweep against Baylor since the 2003-04 season. Earlier in the season on December 21, Texas Tech clinched a narrow 61-60 win against the Bears, ending a 31-game win streak Baylor had held over them since 2011, which was also their first win in Waco in nearly 20 years.
