In a thrilling contest on Sunday, the Texas A&M women’s basketball team managed to break their six-game losing streak, triumphing over the 21st-ranked Alabama team with a final score of 72-69. The standout player for the Aggies was Ny’Ceara Pryor, who not only scored 20 points but also delivered crucial free throws in the game’s closing moments. Fatmata Janneh supported the effort with a notable double-double, contributing 12 points and a commanding 15 rebounds.

Game Highlights

As the game progressed, Jessica Timmons of Alabama made a dramatic three-point play, which pushed the Crimson Tide ahead 57-53 with just under ten minutes remaining. However, the Aggies rallied back; a 10-0 scoring run, featuring a critical three-pointer from Lemyah Hylton and a layup from Lauren Ware, allowed Texas A&M to seize a 63-57 lead.

The momentum swung back and forth as Timmons led Alabama with another scoring spurt bringing them 64-63 ahead at the 4:11 mark. Notably, Alabama’s Essence Cody fouled out with a flagrant-1 technical foul with three minutes remaining, which proved detrimental for the Tide. Following the technical foul, Aggies’ Salese Blow capitalized by sinking two free throws, giving Texas A&M a narrow 67-65 advantage.

Clutch Performances

With 21 seconds on the clock, a foul shot by Janneh extended the Aggies’ lead to three points. Despite a quick response basket from Karly Weathers, Pryor sealed the victory with two successful free throws before Ware showcased her defensive prowess by blocking a last-second three-point attempt.

Pryor’s comprehensive performance also included seven assists, six rebounds, and four steals, a testament to her all-around contribution. Complemented by Ware’s 13 points and Janneh’s impressive double-double, the Aggies improved their season to 9-10 overall, and 2-8 in Southeastern Conference play.

Alabama’s Performance

On the opposing side, Timmons led Alabama with 19 points and eight rebounds, with Ta’Mia Scott adding 18 points and Cody contributing 13 points along with seven boards. The Crimson Tide’s record now stands at 20-5, and they will look to bounce back as they prepare to host No. 11 Oklahoma next Sunday.
