Tampa Bay Lightning’s Steven Santini Hits Waivers as NHL Prepares for New Season

NHL Waiver Activity

On September 28, the NHL saw a flurry of waiver activity, including the notable placement of Steven Santini by the Tampa Bay Lightning. This marks Santini’s second season within the Lightning organization as they head into the 2025-26 campaign.

Performance Overview

Last year, Santini primarily suited up for the Syracuse Crunch in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he played 58 games and tallied six goals alongside 11 assists, accumulating 17 points and finishing with a plus-10 rating. His playoff contribution included three games, during which he recorded one assist while maintaining an even plus/minus.

Previous Seasons

During the 2024-25 NHL season, Santini made a brief appearance in the Lightning lineup for one game but did not register any points. Originally chosen by the New Jersey Devils with the 42nd pick during the 2013 NHL Entry Draft, Santini spent the early part of his career there.

Over his four seasons with the Devils, he participated in 114 games, scoring five goals and providing 16 assists for a total of 21 points while also contributing defensively with 153 blocked shots and 276 hits, although he finished with a minus-10 rating.

Trade to Nashville

Santini’s stint with the Devils concluded during the 2019 offseason when he was traded to the Nashville Predators as part of the trade package that brought star defenseman P.K. Subban to New Jersey.
