Sunderland Signs Chemsdine Talbi
Sunderland has secured the services of 20-year-old winger Chemsdine Talbi, transferring him from Belgian club Club Brugge in a deal estimated at approximately £19.5 million (around $26.5 million). The young Moroccan player has inked a contract that will see him remain with the newly promoted team until at least 2029, indicating a long-term investment in his talent.
Talbi’s Enthusiasm for the Move
“I’m thrilled to join and extremely thankful for the chance to represent this club. The project is appealing, featuring a dynamic squad abundant with young talent—which really inspired my decision. The Premier League, known as the finest league globally, excites me, and I can’t wait to start my journey here. I anticipate strong support from the fans right from the outset, and I look forward to engaging with them at the stadium.”
Career Highlights
Talbi, originally from Belgium, developed within the youth setup at Club Brugge and made his professional debut in the Jupiler Pro League in 2023. Over the past season, he showcased his skills by netting seven goals and providing five assists across 44 matches, contributing to Brugge’s impressive fourth-place finish in the league standings. While he has the versatility to play on both wings, most of his time was spent on the right side.
International Career
In terms of international presence, Talbi has participated in 20 matches for Belgium’s youth teams but chose to switch his national allegiance to Morocco, receiving his first call-up in March. However, he has yet to make his senior debut for the Moroccan national team.
Summer Transfer Window Activity
This acquisition marks Sunderland’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki, Reinildo Mandava, and the permanent move of Enzo Le Fee, as they strengthen their squad ahead of the challenges in the Premier League season ahead.
