Stephen Curry announces plans to return to 3-point shooting contest in 2027

Stephen Curry’s Plans for the 2027 Three-Point Contest

Stephen Curry, recognized as the all-time top three-point shooter in NBA history, has expressed his intention to compete in the three-point shooting contest in the next season of 2027. Curry revealed this exciting news during a recent broadcast on NBC, where he eagerly shared his plans following Damian Lillard’s impressive triumph in the contest — which marked Lillard’s third victory in this category.

When prompted about his desire to re-enter the competition, Curry affirmed his determination with a confident “100 percent”.

Inspiration from Lillard and the Importance of Team

In addition, he mentioned the importance of ensuring that both Lillard and his former teammate, Klay Thompson, are involved in the upcoming contest. Lillard’s success, especially considering his recovery from Achilles surgery, inspired Curry, who has previously claimed victory in the contest in both 2015 and 2021. With Lillard now part of an elite group of three-time winners, Curry seems motivated to either match this achievement or potentially outperform him.

The Competitive Atmosphere and Curry’s Performance

Klay Thompson, who also holds a title from the contest after winning in 2016, adds an interesting element to the anticipated competitive atmosphere. Curry, now in his 17th season at 37 years of age, continues to deliver exceptional performances, averaging 27.2 points per game this season — his best output since the 2022-23 season.

Challenges and Aspirations

Notably, even though he was named a starter for the 2026 All-Star Game, Curry was unable to participate due to a knee injury. Nevertheless, he enjoyed the All-Star festivities, making headlines by sinking a shot from the NBA Showtime desk and actively cheering on the participating players.

As the Warriors navigate the challenging landscape of the Western Conference, currently positioned in eighth place with a record of 29-26 as of Monday, Curry’s presence and performance remain pivotal for the team’s playoff aspirations.
