St. Louis Blues Acquire Goaltender Georgi Romanov
In the world of professional ice hockey, the St. Louis Blues have made a strategic move by acquiring goaltender Georgi Romanov, who was recent to the Devils’ training camp on a professional tryout (PTO). The Blues announced they have secured Romanov with a one-year, two-way contract for the 2025-26 NHL season, showcasing their intention to bolster their goaltending lineup amid recent roster changes.
Enhancing Goaltending Depth
Following a loss of goalie Colten Ellis, who was claimed off waivers by the Buffalo Sabres, the Blues found it necessary to enhance their goaltending depth. To facilitate Romanov’s development, the team has placed him on waivers, intending to assign him to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds.
Recent Performance Overview
Looking back at his recent performance, Romanov spent the previous season within the San Jose Sharks system. During his brief stint with the Sharks in the 2024-25 season, he struggled, finishing with a 0-6-0 record and posting a save percentage of .877 along with a 3.89 goals-against average. However, his time in the AHL with the San Jose Barracuda proved to be more fruitful, where Romanov recorded an 11-6-3 record alongside a .905 save percentage and a 3.10 goals-against average, indicating his potential to contribute positively at the professional level.
