St. Louis Blues Sign Dillon Dube for AHL Tryout Amid Injury Troubles

St. Louis Blues Announce Dillon Dube’s Signing

In an announcement made on Wednesday, the St. Louis Blues confirmed that forward Dillon Dube is set to join the Springfield Thunderbirds of the American Hockey League (AHL) on a professional tryout, pending the approval of his work visa.

Dube’s Professional Background

Dube, a 27-year-old from Golden, British Columbia, is no stranger to the professional hockey scene, having spent the last six seasons with the Calgary Flames after being selected in the second round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. Throughout his NHL tenure, he accumulated a total of 127 points from 57 goals and 70 assists over 325 games, notably scoring 18 goals in both the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons. Most recently, he played for Minsk Dynamo in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), where he recorded 11 points through four goals and seven assists during the 2024-25 season.

Team Challenges and Dube’s Legal History

This signing follows a particularly tough stretch for the Blues, who are grappling with significant injuries among their forwards. Key players such as Jordan Kyrou (lower-body injury), Jimmy Snuggerud (wrist), Alexey Toropchenko (leg burns), Nathan Walker (upper body), and Nick Bjugstad (upper body) are sidelined, prompting the team to elevate Aleksanteri Kaskimaki, Matt Luff, and Hugh McGing to fill the void in their lineup.

Additionally, Dube’s legal history from his time as a member of Canada’s 2018 World Junior hockey team remains notable. He, along with four of his former teammates, faced sexual assault charges related to an incident that occurred in London, Ontario, in 2018. However, the players, which include Carter Hart, now with the Vegas Golden Knights, Alex Formenton, Michael McLeod, and Cal Foote, were acquitted of these charges in July.

Looking Ahead

The Blues released a statement regarding Dube’s signing, recognizing both his skill and the current needs of the team. As the Blues aim to strengthen their roster amid a challenging period, Dube’s addition may provide the much-needed boost to their forward depth as the season progresses.
