St. Louis Blues Deal Zack Bolduc to Montreal Canadiens for Logan Mailloux

St. Louis Blues Trade Zack Bolduc to Montreal Canadiens

In a strategic move aimed at reshaping their roster, the St. Louis Blues have traded promising young forward Zack Bolduc to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Logan Mailloux on Tuesday.

Logan Mailloux: A Promising Defenseman

Logan Mailloux, a 22-year-old defenseman, was selected 31st overall in the 2021 NHL Draft. Although he has a modest record in the NHL with just eight games played and five points to his name, he demonstrated potential during his time with the Laval Rocket, the AHL affiliate, scoring 12 goals and contributing a total of 33 points across 63 games. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 213 pounds, Mailloux is a right-shot defenseman who adds size and physical presence to the blue line.

Zack Bolduc’s Growth and Potential

On the other hand, Zack Bolduc, who also turned 22 this year, was picked 17th in the same draft class and has shown significant growth, particularly during the 2024-25 season when he achieved a career-high of 19 goals and 36 points over 97 games. His performance suggests that he has the potential to become a key player for the Canadiens moving forward.

Strategic Implications of the Trade

This trade comes in the wake of the Canadiens’ previous trade that sent Emil Heineman to the New York Islanders as part of the Noah Dobson deal. Bolduc’s acquisition provides Montreal with a suitable replacement for Heineman, who was a high-energy prospect suited for the team’s middle-six forward positions.

With the Canadiens already stacked on defense, acquiring Bolduc allows them to address a clear need for additional scoring help in their forward lineup. Mailloux’s path to a prominent role in defense became more complicated following the Dobson trade, making this swap a logical step for the Canadiens as they continue to build their roster effectively.
