Tennis Court Improvements in St. Joseph, Missouri
In St. Joseph, Missouri, tennis enthusiasts will soon have to find alternative locations to play as the local government prepares to improve the Noyes Tennis Courts. The city revealed on Thursday that beginning June 9, the courts will be off-limits for about a month due to extensive resurfacing and replacement of lighting fixtures—work that is contingent on favorable weather conditions.
Inconveniences and Additional Renovations
In conjunction with these upgrades, the restroom facilities near the courts will also be unavailable during the construction phase, which adds to the inconveniences for local athletes. Furthermore, the nearby football field and track are currently closed as part of a different renovation project initiated by the St. Joseph School District.
Project Details and Funding
As part of the scope of work, enhancements will include the installation of new lighting systems at both the tennis and horseshoe courts. The city council previously green-lit the project in March, awarding a $123,900 contract to Pro Track and Tennis, Inc. Additionally, a $23,900 contribution from the St. Joseph School District was accepted to help fund the improvements. Overall, around $275,000 from parks sales tax revenues will be allocated for the lighting upgrades.
Residents are encouraged to utilize the Northside Complex or Hyde Park as alternative venues during the closure.
