Minneapolis, June 4 — The Class A state team tennis tournament continued this week at the Reed-Sweatt Family Tennis Center, where Southwest Christian secured two victories, overcoming unseeded Minnewaska in the consolation semifinals on Tuesday and later defeating Foley to clinch the consolation championship title on Wednesday afternoon. The final match against Foley ended with a narrow score of 4-3 in favor of Southwest Christian.

Match Details

In their match against Minnewaska, the competition was intense, with three matches requiring a deciding third set tiebreak. In the singles matches, Mateo Schneibel of Southwest Christian emerged victorious with a scoreline of 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (6) over Minnewaska’s Tenzin Dahl. Meanwhile, Carter LeClair from Minnewaska managed to secure a win at No. 3 singles, defeating Davis Wurst with a score of 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (3).

Doubles play saw Minnewaska’s duo, Riley Thorfinnson and Marshall Kopp, claim victory at No. 1 doubles against Cameron Thomas and Evan Johnson, ending with a match score of 6-1, 1-6, 1-0 (9). Additionally, Drew Bleick from the Lakers contributed a point with a decisive 6-1, 6-2 victory over Brock Walmer in the No. 2 singles match.

Looking ahead, Dahl and Kopp from Minnewaska will compete in the upcoming Class A state individual tournament, where they are unseeded in the doubles category. They are scheduled to face Foley’s unseeded pairing of Aaron VanderWeyst and Jack Erkens at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
