Luke Shaw Supports Ruben Amorim’s Overhaul at Manchester United
In a recent press briefing, Luke Shaw expressed his support for Ruben Amorim‘s efforts to overhaul the negative atmosphere at Manchester United, labeling the current culture as “toxic.” The England international emphasized that Amorim, who took over as manager last November, is committed to elevating the team’s standards following a historically poor season that saw United finish in 15th place in the Premier League.
Commitment and Expectations
Shaw highlighted that Amorim’s approach is unapologetically demanding, stating that he expects complete commitment from every player.
“Ruben is clear about his expectations; he wants every player to give 100%, and if someone is only contributing 85% or 90%, that won’t suffice under his leadership,”
Shaw remarked.
The defender has observed an evident shift in the squad dynamics since Amorim’s arrival, as the manager has enforced a strict policy of excluding any players he deems to be holding back the team. Notably, Marcus Rashford was loaned to Barcelona, and several others, including Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho, have been left behind during the preseason tour of the United States.
“There are no stragglers left in this team,”
Shaw asserted, underscoring Amorim’s rigorous stance on player commitment. He added that new signings Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were welcomed to the club based on their strong desire to play for United, further reflecting the shift in the team’s mentality.
Fostering a Positive Environment
Shaw emphasized the essential need for a healthier and more positive training environment, saying,
“The atmosphere has been quite negative for too long, and it’s not healthy at all. We need to foster positivity and happiness within the group.”
As the longest-serving player at the club, Shaw has vowed to support Amorim’s vision and insists that all players, especially veterans, must step up their efforts daily.
“It’s our responsibility as players to hold ourselves accountable and ensure we are meeting the standards set by the manager,”
he noted.
Looking Ahead
Overall, the preseason tour is intended not only as a preparation phase but as a crucial reset for Manchester United as they aim to turn the program around for an improved season following their disappointing last campaign.
