Sharks’ Former Defenseman Targets Move To Russian Elite League

Calen Addison’s Path to Russian Hockey

As players continue to explore opportunities around the globe, the talent pipeline between North American professional hockey and the Russian elite circuit remains robust. According to Russian sports outlets, Dynamo Moskva has expressed interest in acquiring 26-year-old defenseman Calen Addison, marking another chapter in the journeyman’s career following his departure from North American professional hockey.

Addison’s tenure with the San Jose Sharks during the 2023-24 campaign lasted 60 games, a brief stint that came as part of an effort by then-management to bolster offensive production from the blue line. Acquired from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick and forward Adam Raska—both of whom have since moved to international opportunities—Addison’s time in teal proved insufficient to warrant the organization’s further commitment. The defenseman contributed one goal and 12 points during his period with the franchise.

Over a four-season NHL career spanning 152 games across multiple organizations, Addison accumulated six goals and 50 total points. Following his departure from San Jose, he has cycled through three separate teams at the American Hockey League level over two seasons, establishing himself as a journeyman seeking stability.

While reports from Sport-Express indicate Dynamo Moskva’s potential interest, no official agreement has been reached as of now. Should the relocation materialize, Addison would join Yegor Rimashevsky, a Sharks prospect selected in the seventh round of the 2023 NHL Draft, in the Russian capital’s professional ranks.
