Sharks Edge Ducks 4-3 as Celebrini Shines with Late Heroics

Sharks Edge Out Ducks in Thrilling Matchup

In a thrilling matchup on Wednesday night, the San Jose Sharks edged out the Anaheim Ducks 4-3, thanks to an impressive performance from rookie Macklin Celebrini. The 19-year-old managed to equalize the score with just 1:39 remaining in the game before assisting Alexander Wennberg for the decisive goal only 31 seconds later.

This outstanding effort earned Celebrini four points for the game, bringing his season totals to 40 goals and 105 points.

His achievement not only highlights his remarkable talent but also positions him above Erik Karlsson‘s previous franchise record of 101 points set in the 2022-23 season, though he still trails Joe Thornton, who scored 114 points in the 2006-07 season.

Celebrini’s Historic Season

This season has been prolific for Celebrini; he has now recorded three or more points in 17 games, which places him second among teenagers in NHL history—only Wayne Gretzky had more with 19 three-point games during his stellar 1979-80 season.

Game Highlights

Other notable contributors for the Sharks included Will Smith, who notched a goal and two assists, while goaltender Yaroslav Askirov made 28 saves. Conversely, the Ducks took the lead in the third period when Troy Terry scored at 4:04, making it 3-2. But the momentum shifted in favor of San Jose after Celebrini’s late-game heroics.

Ducks’ Current Struggles

Despite this latest defeat, the Ducks remain in a strong position, currently leading the Pacific Division, although they are enduring a three-game losing streak without their top scorer, Cutter Gauthier, who is sidelined with an upper-body injury sustained in a recent loss to Toronto. Nathan Gaucher made his NHL debut for the Ducks after being drafted 22nd overall by the team in 2022. Drew Helleson contributed with two assists, and Lukas Dostal, besides stopping 16 shots, recorded his first assist this season on Ryan Poehling‘s goal.

Looking Ahead

With this victory, the Sharks now hold a 2-1 advantage in their seasonal series against the Ducks. Looking ahead, the Ducks are set to return home to face the St. Louis Blues on Friday, while the Sharks will host the Toronto Maple Leafs in the next game of their six-game homestand on Thursday night.
