Shane McGuigan Warns That Few Will Dare Face Rising Star Adam Azim

Adam Azim’s Stellar Performance

On Saturday, Adam Azim delivered another outstanding performance in the ring, further establishing himself as a rising star in the junior welterweight division. The 23-year-old fighter, whose professional record now stands at 14 wins and 11 knockouts, faced American Kurt Scoby on the undercard of the Eubank Jr.-Benn event in London. Azim showcased his boxing skills throughout the match, demonstrating control and composure up until he secured a stoppage victory in the twelfth round.

Return to the Ring

This matchup marked Azim’s return to the ring after a hiatus since February. He exhibited no signs of inactivity, smoothly employing his signature left jab and a mix of powerful combinations as the contest progressed. Looking ahead, he plans to step back into the ring in early 2026 with aspirations of contending for a world title.

Concerns About Finding Opponents

However, his coach, Shane McGuigan, expressed concerns about the difficulty of finding willing opponents for Azim.

“The only people that really want to fight him are former world champions that are on their way out,”

McGuigan remarked to ESPN, emphasizing that they are not ideal matches if they don’t come prepared to compete aggressively.

McGuigan noted that prospective opponents might shy away from Azim after witnessing his latest performance. With competitors reluctant to risk their standings against him, the search for suitable challenges remains a pressing issue. Azim and fellow British boxer Dalton Smith, who holds an unbeaten record of 18-0, have exchanged words in the past, but given that Smith is slated to fight Subriel Matias for the WBC title on January 10, a clash between the two seems unlikely in the immediate future.

Focused and Ambitious

Despite the trash talk leading up to the bout, Azim remained unfazed by Scoby’s pre-fight antics.

“I never underestimate my opponents, so I was very focused for this fight,”

he stated after the match. He maintained that while there had been much hype surrounding Scoby’s supposed potential to defeat him, he proved his doubters wrong. Azim emphatically stated his ambitions for the upcoming year, saying,

“I want the world titles. That’s all I want.”

With his impressive track record since turning professional in 2020, Adam Azim continues to strive for greater challenges in the boxing world.
