Sergio Ramos Contract Negotiations

Sergio Ramos, the seasoned Spanish defender, is in discussions to prolong his contract with CF Monterrey, which is set to lapse at the end of December. Since joining the Liga MX team in February, Ramos has made a mark with two goals in 15 league matches, showcasing his influential presence on the field.

Club’s Confirmation and Upcoming Matches

Monterrey’s president, José Antonio Noriega, confirmed ongoing negotiations regarding Ramos’ extension during a press interaction, stating:

“Of course, we are having those discussions, which is typical in this situation. However, I prefer not to delve into specifics as it distracts us from the immediate focus, which is preparing for our match against a challenging opponent like América.”

The club is gearing up for the first leg of the Apertura quarterfinals against América on November 26.

Ramos’ Future and Club Commitment

As Ramos approaches his 40th birthday on March 30, 2026, he has openly communicated his wish to remain with Monterrey, stating his happiness and comfort with the club. Last month, he expressed:

“Indeed, my contract is up in December, yet my hope is to continue here as we are content and have settled well.”

Having enjoyed a remarkable tenure at Real Madrid for 16 years, where he claimed four Champions League titles and five La Liga championships, Ramos transitioned to the Mexican club in 2021 after leaving Madrid as a free agent. His contributions are pivotal not only because of his experience but also due to his leadership as team captain.

World Cup Preparations

In addition, Monterrey’s commitment to hosting the World Cup playoff tournament in 2026 remains steadfast, with the government’s projects related to the event progressing as planned.
