Senators Shockingly Defeat Avalanche 5-2, Dealing Them Third Loss in Four Games

Ottawa Senators Triumph Over Colorado Avalanche

In a surprising turn of events on Wednesday night, the Ottawa Senators triumphed against the top-ranked Colorado Avalanche, winning decisively with a score of 5-2. Tim Stutzle stood out for the Senators, contributing both a goal and an assist, alongside Artem Zub, who provided two assists to the team’s effort. Other key players for Ottawa included Nick Cousins, Ridly Greig, Claude Giroux, and Brady Tkachuk, who all found the net, while goaltender James Reimer adeptly defended the goal, making 16 saves to fend off the opposition’s attempts.

Colorado Avalanche Struggles Continue

The Avalanche, who have been struggling lately, now find themselves facing defeat in three out of their last four outings. Valeri Nichushkin and Parker Kelly each scored for Colorado, but the performance from Ottawa proved too strong for them to overcome. Mackenzie Blackwood, who was in goal for the Avalanche, recorded 18 saves during the contest.

Game Highlights

The second period saw Ottawa take an early lead when Cousins scored off a perfect stretch pass from Zub. Colorado managed to level the score with a goal from Kelly after a miscommunication led to a fortunate deflection. However, the Senators quickly regained control just 17 seconds later through Greig, who raced ahead to capitalize on a loose puck after Tyler Kleven‘s shot bounced off the boards.

Heading into the third period, Ottawa maintained a crucial 3-1 lead, and Giroux added a goal with a high shot against Blackwood, marking his tenth goal of the season. Just moments later, a turnover by Giroux allowed Nichushkin to score for Colorado, reducing the deficit to 3-2. However, the Senators sealed their victory with empty-net goals from Tkachuk and Stutzle late in the game.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, the Senators are set to host the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, while the Avalanche will head to Montreal for their next match on Thursday.
