Mohamed Salah Responds to Fan Account
Mohamed Salah recently responded to a Liverpool fan account on X, addressing what he perceived as a lack of respect for his former teammates, Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez. The fan page, Anfield Edition, which boasts over 500,000 followers, shared a graphic depicting Díaz and Núñez alongside new signings, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, accompanied by the provocative caption:
“Name a bigger upgrade in footballing history.”
Transfers and New Signings
This summer, both Díaz and Núñez made moves away from Liverpool, with Díaz transferring to Bayern Munich and Núñez joining Al Hilal. In their stead, Liverpool secured Isak and Wirtz, whose combined transfer fees neared £250 million, making headlines across the football world. Wirtz, notably recognized as the Bundesliga Player of the Year for the recently concluded season, and Isak, regarded as one of the premier forwards globally, garnered attention for their impressive performances, with Isak finishing just behind Salah in the Premier League’s goal tally from last season.
Salah’s Message to Fans
Despite the excitement surrounding their arrivals, Salah took the opportunity to remind fans of the significant contributions by Díaz and Núñez to Liverpool’s achievements, particularly their title-winning campaign last season. He wrote in response to the Anfield Edition post,
“How about we celebrate the great signings without disrespecting the PL champions?”
Salah’s Social Media Activism
This incident is not the first time Salah has utilized his social media platform to voice his opinions or defend his colleagues. Earlier this summer, he publicly criticized UEFA following the tragic death of Palestinian footballer Suleiman Al-Obeid and has been known for making subtle statements during his contract negotiations with Liverpool last season.
