Saint Joseph High School Girls’ Tennis Team

The girls’ tennis team at Saint Joseph High School in South Bend has clinched top accolades in the 2024-25 Northern Indiana Conference (NIC) season. Anni Amalnathan, a senior standout for the Huskies, has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the conference, while coach Bill Mountford has received the distinction of Coach of the Year.

Last year, the Huskies captured the state championship, and they maintained their winning streak this season, finishing with an impressive 7-0 record in league play.

Athletic Honors

In addition to Amalnathan’s recognition, several other athletes received First Team All-NIC honors. Saint Joseph’s sophomore Libby Yergler excelled at No. 2 singles, while freshman Coco Burfien played at No. 3 singles. Furthermore, the duo of junior Anna Walsh and senior Molly Borger earned accolades in No. 2 doubles.

The runner-up in the NIC, Penn, concluded their season with a 6-1 record and had their own set of First Team selections: senior Aileen Hu dominated at No. 1 singles, while freshman Olivia Wu excelled at No. 2 singles. Amina Spahic, a junior, teamed with senior Jaanavi Kaushik to shine in No. 1 doubles.

On the All-NIC second team, junior Sofia Jankowski of New Prairie and sophomore Samantha Pischalko from Penn were acknowledged at No. 1 singles and No. 3 singles respectively. Ella Michaels, a junior, and sophomore Maya Ewing from Saint Joseph were recognized in No. 1 doubles, alongside New Prairie seniors Rachel Paul and Melanie Greenwood in the No. 2 doubles category.

Honorable Mentions and Standings

Honorable mention went to Marian’s freshman Olivia Snell at No. 2 singles, senior Lillian Meier at No. 3 singles, and New Prairie’s senior Kim Crawford with sophomore Morgan Setmayer at No. 2 doubles.

The final standings of the NIC saw Saint Joseph at the top with a perfect 7-0, followed by Penn at 6-1, New Prairie at 5-2, Elkhart at 4-3, Marian at 3-4, Adams at 2-5, Riley at 1-6, and Washington finishing the season at 0-7.

This season’s achievement highlights a formidable year for the Huskies under the guidance of Coach Mountford.
