Ryan Lindgren Reflects on Emotional Transition Following Trade from Rangers to Avalanche and Kraken Signing

Ryan Lindgren’s Trade to the Colorado Avalanche

In what turned out to be a significant shift for both Ryan Lindgren and the New York Rangers, the defenseman moved on from the team that had been his home since entering the NHL. The trade to the Colorado Avalanche in March, shortly before the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, marked the end of an era for the 27-year-old player.

Emotional Departure and New Opportunities

While Lindgren acknowledged the sadness that accompanied his departure, he also expressed eagerness about the new opportunities that awaited him.

“After spending six years with one team, it was an emotional wake-up call to find out I was being traded,”

he reflected.

“Initially, it was tough to leave, but embracing a new environment and connecting with teammates in Colorado was energizing. It was a lot of fun playing there, and I enjoyed the competition with a strong team.”

Performance with the Avalanche

During his brief stint with the Avalanche, Lindgren participated in 18 games, contributing two goals and one assist for a total of three points, while averaging 19 minutes of ice time per match. Despite high hopes for a deep playoff run, the Avalanche faced an early exit, falling to the Dallas Stars in the first round.

Signing with the Seattle Kraken

As the NHL’s Free Agency period commenced, Lindgren signed a lucrative deal with the Seattle Kraken, inking a four-year contract worth $18 million, translating to an annual salary of $4.5 million. This move reunites him with former Rangers teammate Kaapo Kakko, whom Lindgren praised highly during his introductory press conference.

“Kaapo was one of my favorite teammates; an incredible player and a genuine person,”

he shared. Lindgren’s transfer to Seattle adds to a trend this past year, with numerous former Rangers defensemen, including notable names like Jacob Trouba, K’Andre Miller, and Zac Jones, also leaving the franchise.
