Rose Lavelle and Lilly Reale Recognized with US Soccer Awards for 2025 Achievements

Rose Lavelle Named 2025 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year

In a remarkable achievement, Rose Lavelle has been recognized as the 2025 U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year. Currently representing Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League, Lavelle made her comeback to the national squad in June after a recovery period from ankle surgery. During her return, she made six appearances, contributing three goals and three assists to the team’s efforts.

At 30 years old, Lavelle also demonstrated her skills during the season with Gotham, netting six goals alongside two assists. Key to her team’s triumph in the NWSL championship was Lavelle’s decisive goal in a tight 1-0 match against the Washington Spirit, which earned her the title of Most Valuable Player.

“I wouldn’t have been in the position to even be up for the award without all of the support I received throughout the year just to get back on the field. So, this award is definitely shared with all the people I was lucky enough to have in my corner along the way.”

With a decade-long experience on the national team, she is also known for her critical performance in the 2019 Women’s World Cup final against the Netherlands, where she scored in their 2-0 victory. Additionally, Lavelle was a vital member of the team that clinched gold at the 2024 Olympics, boasting a career tally of 27 goals and 27 assists in national team play.

Voting and Recognition

Lavelle, being the 22nd player to achieve this honor, secured 29.2% of the weighted votes, surpassing Sam Coffey who garnered 23.9% and Catarina Macario with 22.3%. Votes were cast by national team coaches, capped players from 2025, U.S. Soccer board members, as well as council athletes, NWSL coaches, and selected media personalities.

Young Female Player of the Year

In conjunction with Lavelle’s accolade, Gotham defender Lilly Reale was distinguished as the Young Female Player of the Year. At just 22, Reale exhibited her prowess by participating in all 26 regular-season matches and starting in the three playoff games for Gotham. She received her first call-up to the senior national team after previously representing the U.S. at youth levels and was part of the under-20 squad at the 2022 World Cup. Reale received a significant 48% of the weighted vote, with Jordyn Bugg and Micayla Johnson following at 29.6% and 16.1%, respectively.

“We all know that Rose is not only one of the best players in the world, but also one of the most fun to watch and to coach, so it’s very satisfying to see her recognized in this way. Regarding Lilly, it’s been an impressive start to her professional career, facing challenges while showing mental and physical strength. We’re excited to watch her develop further in her roles for both club and country.”
