Nashville Predators Welcome Back Captain Roman Josi
The Nashville Predators are welcoming back their captain, Roman Josi, as the team kicks off training camp on Thursday. After being diagnosed with postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS) late in the previous season, Josi is now fully fit and ready to participate. Predators’ general manager, Barry Trotz, expressed optimism about Josi’s current condition, stating,
“He feels great right now.”
Josi’s Journey and Recovery
When the diagnosis was initially made in June, it was anticipated that Josi would return for training camp, and true to expectation, he was among the first group of players on the ice during the morning session.
Reflecting on last season, Trotz noted that Josi was not performing at his usual level, as he was limited to just 53 games due to a concussion. His last appearance was against the Florida Panthers on February 25, a team that would later capture the Stanley Cup in consecutive seasons.
In the months following his diagnosis, Josi dedicated his spring and summer to working closely with specialists to manage his health. While POTS lacks a definitive cure, its symptoms—including rapid heart rate, dizziness, and fatigue—can be effectively addressed. Trotz emphasized Josi’s elite status, stating,
“He’s one of the top defensemen in the National Hockey League.”
He noted that the captain’s improved understanding of his health issues has positively impacted his readiness for the upcoming season.
Looking Ahead
Turning 35 at the beginning of June, Josi is not only a pivotal player for the Predators but also secured a position on Switzerland’s Olympic team for the upcoming 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Games. Currently, he is committed to the Predators under an eight-year contract worth $72 million, which extends through the 2027-28 season, and has achieved impressive career statistics with 962 games played, 190 goals scored, and 534 assists.
