Rodríguez considers future moves, drawn by Messi’s presence at Inter Miami

Rodríguez Evaluates Career Options

Brian Rodríguez, currently with Club América, has acknowledged that the allure of joining forces with superstars Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez at Inter Miami CF is influencing his ongoing evaluation of his career options. ESPN sources have reported that the Major League Soccer club has initiated discussions to potentially acquire the Uruguayan winger. Rodríguez confirmed these conversations, indicating interest from Miami while also revealing that opportunities in Spain remain on the table.

Club Interest and Personal Aspirations

He stated,

“Inter Miami’s interest is genuine. We have been in talks for several weeks. It was an honor to chat with Luis Suárez about the club.”

Rodríguez further expressed,

“While I would prefer a move to Spain, the chance to play alongside Suárez and Messi is quite significant for me. I also plan to consult with Marcelo Bielsa, our national team coach, to get his perspective. Previously, I had discussions with him regarding a possible transfer to Fiorentina.”

Rodríguez, who previously played in MLS for LAFC from 2019 to 2021 during a successful season that included winning the Supporters’ Shield, now finds himself considering offers once more.

Mascherano’s Commentary on Squad Depth

Inter Miami’s head coach, Javier Mascherano, commented on the need for additions to bolster the squad ahead of their Club World Cup challenge, highlighting the lack of depth in the current lineup. He noted,

“I didn’t present a specific list of players but expressed the positions that require reinforcement. Following the departures of Robert Taylor and Julian Gressel, our roster has become relatively thin.”

Mascherano stated that although it is his responsibility to identify areas needing improvement, he understands the club’s subsequent actions will depend on available budget and viable player options. As a result of this shortened roster, Mascherano confirmed that players David Ruiz and Fafà Picault will not be available for national duties during the upcoming Gold Cup, as the tournament coincides with the Club World Cup.

Upcoming Challenges for Rodríguez and Club América

Rodríguez and Club América faced LAFC in a playoff for a spot in the 2025 Club World Cup but ultimately fell short in that single-elimination match. This defeat means that they will have a hiatus until the start of the 2025 Leagues Cup, which is scheduled to begin on July 30. To prepare for the Club World Cup, FIFA has approved a special transfer window from June 1 to June 10, but MLS franchises must still adhere to league-specific salary cap and roster guidelines.
