Rodrigo De Paul Joins Inter Miami on Loan from Atlético Madrid

Inter Miami Signs Rodrigo De Paul

Inter Miami has secured the services of Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul from Atlético Madrid, the La Liga club confirmed on Friday. According to a statement from Atlético Madrid,

“Rodrigo de Paul bids farewell to Atletico Madrid and will continue his professional career at Inter Miami.”

Loan Agreement Details

Sources familiar with the deal informed ESPN that De Paul will join Miami on loan for an initial period that runs until the conclusion of the 2025 season, with an option for the club to acquire him permanently.

Current Roster Situation

De Paul, who is 31 years old, enters Miami without occupying one of the designated player slots at the moment, as these are currently filled by Lionel Messi, Jordi Alba, and Sergio Busquets. However, there is a possibility for him to take up a DP position if one becomes available at the end of his loan tenure.

Strategic Acquisition

This acquisition is part of a broader strategy by Inter Miami to enhance both its roster depth and overall quality. De Paul will reunite with Messi, with the organization looking to offer Messi an extension of his contract beyond the expiration date of December 2025.

International and Club Achievements

Notably, De Paul was a pivotal member of the Argentine national team that clinched victory at the 2022 World Cup, in addition to winning the Copa América in 2021 and 2024 alongside Messi. Previously, in July 2021, he transferred to Atlético Madrid from Udinese in Serie A for a fee of €35 million (approximately $41 million) and made a significant impact, featuring in 187 matches, netting 14 goals, and providing 26 assists throughout his tenure.

Recent Performance

Last season, he was instrumental under the management of Diego Simeone, participating in 53 games across various competitions, including the Club World Cup last month.

Atlético Madrid’s Midfield Strategy

Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid has been proactive in strengthening its midfield this summer, bringing in United States international Johnny Cardoso from Real Betis, Alex Baena from Villarreal, and Argentine Thiago Almada from Botafogo.
