Wimbledon Championships 2025
The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London is currently hosting the Wimbledon Championships, which runs from June 30 to July 13, 2025. This prestigious tournament is the third Grand Slam event of the tennis calendar, a legacy that dates back to its inception in 1877 and is famously played on grass courts.
Former University of Tennessee Players
Among the competitors this year were five former players from the University of Tennessee, known as the Vols, who have all been eliminated from their respective events.
Notably, Tommy Paul, seeded 13th in the men’s singles category, advanced past Johannus Monday with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 victory.
However, Monday’s struggles continued in the doubles segment, where he teamed up with David Stevenson but fell to the duo of Mattia Bellucci and Fabian Marozsan, losing 7-6, 6-4 in their first match.
Doubles Action
In other doubles action, John-Patrick Smith faced a second-round exit alongside his partner Fernando Romboli after a defeat by Marcelo Demoliner and Guido Andreozzi, with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-3, following their earlier triumph over American pair Mackenzie McDonald and Alex Michelsen in the first round.
Meanwhile, Mark Wallner managed to progress to the second round with doubles partner Jakob Schnaitter, defeating Sebastian Baez and Francisco Comesana with scores of 6-4, 7-6. Unfortunately, their journey ended against the 10th seeded team of Hugo Nys and Edouard Roger-Vasselin, who claimed victory 6-4, 6-4.
Eliminations
Adam Walton also faced elimination in both singles and doubles first rounds. In singles, he was bested by Arthur Cazaux in a tightly contested match, finishing 6-3, 7-6, 6-4, 7-6, 6-1. Later in the doubles, Walton and Jenson Brooksby were defeated by Alexander Erler and Constantin Frantzen, who won 7-6, 6-4.
Giles Hussey encountered disappointment as well, ending his run after a loss in a quarterfinal qualifying match to August Holmgren with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
