Red Panda’s Comeback After Injury
After enduring a frightening incident during a WNBA Commissioner’s Cup event, Rong Niu, widely recognized as the unicycle performer Red Panda, has shared uplifting news with her fans: she plans to make a comeback. In July, while performing her signature act of tossing bowls onto her head from a 7-foot unicycle at halftime of a game between the Indiana Fever and the Minnesota Lynx, Niu experienced a significant fall that resulted in a serious wrist injury. This unfortunate incident necessitated surgery and sidelined her for the remainder of the WNBA season.
Optimism for the Future
On Sunday, her agency announced that Niu is optimistic about returning to the court during the upcoming men’s and women’s basketball seasons for 2025-26. Reports indicate that she has begun practicing again and is eager to resume her performances.
Pat Figley, Niu’s agent, conveyed the heartfelt appreciation from Niu to her supporters in a communication, stating, “We are sending out this note to thank everyone for their heartfelt wishes to Red Panda for a speedy recovery from her fall. It was a very serious injury and she did require surgery. She appreciated all the sincere follow-up. It was amazing and very touching. She really appreciates all of the support. She is recovering well and is practicing. She is looking forward to performing this season.”
Beloved Performer
Prior to her accident, Niu’s captivating performances made her a beloved fixture at halftime shows across various NBA, WNBA, and collegiate basketball games, where fans often chose to stay in their seats to watch her, foregoing food and bathroom breaks. While no exact date for her return has been established, Figley confirmed that Niu is making good progress in her recovery and is on track for a comeback in the near future. “She is healing,” he assured.
