Premier League MVP Rankings – March 2025
In March 2025, we shared our fourth set of Premier League MVP rankings, addressing an essential query: Which athletes are crucial for success among the league’s best teams? Our methodology incorporated a blend of on-field skills and tactical importance to determine their vital contributions, resulting in a ranked list of 15 players. Unsurprisingly, the most impactful and frequently available athletes rose in the ranks, while those playing pivotal tactical roles were also recognized.
Fast forward to today, and we are back with the fifth edition of these rankings, eager to see which stars have ascended or diminished in importance over the course of the season. Football teams often face significant challenges that necessitate adjustments due to injuries, player absences, and inconsistent performance levels, prompting a reassessment of player standing among England’s traditional elite clubs, often referred to as the “Big Six.”
Methodology
For this round of rankings, we analyzed how rosters have evolved since our previous evaluation. Our approach included reviewing eligibility criteria, setting a minimum playing time of 300 minutes, which is minimal considering that many key contributors exceed 1,000 minutes played already. This season, we expanded our evaluation to include performances from the Champions League, recognizing the heightened demands on teams with a congested schedule that require rotation.
We consulted experts from each club for insight, leveraging statistics from Opta and performance data from Gradient Sports to substantiate our rankings, which account for the premise that subjectivity always colors such assessments.
Arsenal Reassessments
In a surprising twist, Martin Ødegaard does not feature in this edition due to a series of injuries that kept him below the minimal minutes required to qualify. Fellow teammates Kai Havertz, Ben White, Ethan Nwaneri, and Thomas Partey also find themselves off the list due to their match time or transfers. This absence creates space for an influx of newcomers from the Gunners’ summer recruitment drive.
Notable New Faces:
- Cristhian Mosquera (15): A rising talent, Mosquera has gained valuable experience as Saliba navigated some fitness issues, stepping up during critical moments.
- Noni Madueke (14): Despite a knee injury hampering his early form at Arsenal, Madueke is set to make an impact again upon his return.
- Eberechi Eze (12): The young midfielder has rekindled ties with Arsenal after being released as a child and is now making steady contributions to the team.
- David Raya (8): As one of the league’s elite goalkeepers, Raya’s standing droops slightly due to the solid defensive unit in front of him limiting his chances to shine.
Arsenal Top Players:
- Bukayo Saka (1): With Ødegaard absent, Saka takes up the mantle as the Gunners’ top performer this season, continuously finding ways to impact matches.
Chelsea Rebuild
Chelsea Update: The side has seen significant turnover, with six players dropping off this list, notably due to injuries.
- Jamie Gittens (15): Rising in prominence, Gittens has yet to solidify himself as a first-choice option after stepping in to replace Jadon Sancho.
- Estêvão (8): The Brazilian star, whose impact is keenly noted during matches, has generated excitement after a series of standout performances despite needing time to adapt.
Chelsea Star Spotlight:
- Moisés Caicedo (1): The Ecuadorian has established himself as essential, leading the rankings thanks to consistent performances in midfield.
Liverpool’s Challenges
Compared to past selections, Liverpool sees four significant players drop from the rankings due to injuries and limited appearances.
- Alexander Isak (15): Injuries have restricted Isak’s initial Liverpool tenure, an aspect to monitor closely.
- Alisson (5): The talented goalkeeper remains crucial to the team’s stability but must regain his peak form to maintain prominence.
Liverpool’s Key Performer:
- Virgil van Dijk (1): His experience and leadership anchor the defensive line, making him vital to Liverpool’s aspirations this season.
Manchester United’s Shake-Up
Seven players also fell out of the United lineup due to various issues, causing re-evaluation of their top talents.
- Mason Mount (12): Mount looks to re-establish himself as a valuable asset after injury disruptions, but his tactical intelligence continues to earn him minutes.
- Bruno Fernandes (1): No surprise that Fernandes remains a constant force, showcasing his tremendous output in midfield facilitating United’s attacks.
Tottenham’s Adjustments
Tottenham has lost several key players to injuries and transfers.
- Brennan Johnson (15): After celebrating winning the Europa League, Johnson encounters challenges and relegation on the depth chart amid fierce competition.
- Cristian Romero (1): Romero’s blend of defensive skill and ball distribution makes him a standout amidst Tottenham’s shifts and uncertainties in tactics.
