Arkansas Razorbacks Secure Victory Over Texas
In a decisive display of skill, the Arkansas Razorbacks secured a significant victory over Texas, winning 105-85 on Wednesday evening. This triumph not only marked their highest point total against the Longhorns since 1991 but also ensured that Arkansas, now at 22 wins and 8 losses (12-5 in the SEC), would enter the Southeastern Conference Tournament with a double bye, effectively allowing them to skip the initial rounds next week in Nashville, Tennessee.
Standout Performers
Darius Acuff Jr. was a standout performer, achieving a historic milestone by becoming the first Razorback to score at least 25 points and provide 10 assists in a single game. He ended with impressive stats of 28 points and 13 assists, having contributed 19 points and eight of those assists by halftime. Alongside him, Trevon Brazile also reached a career peak with 28 points, shooting an exceptional 9 of 11 from the field, and grabbing seven rebounds, playing his last home game for Arkansas.
From the Texas side, Matas Vokietaitis led the team with 21 points. The Longhorns, who currently hold an 18-12 record and a 9-8 mark in conference play, had four players score in double digits but struggled to keep pace with the Razorbacks.
Game Statistics
Arkansas dominated the shooting statistics, achieving a remarkable 58% accuracy from both the field and the three-point line, while also capitalizing on free throws with an 80% success rate. Their fast-break points showcased their speed, outscoring Texas 38-15 in that category throughout the game.
Honoring a Legend
In a nostalgic moment during the halftime break, Arkansas honored their legendary coach Nolan Richardson, who led the Razorbacks to a national championship in 1994. The school announced plans to erect a statue in his honor outside Bud Walton Arena, celebrating his lasting impact on the program.
Looking Ahead
The Razorbacks set the tone early in the match, starting with a 19-4 run in the first six minutes, taking advantage of Texas’ slow start, which saw them make only one of their first eight attempts at basket.
Looking ahead, Texas is scheduled to host Oklahoma this coming Saturday, while Arkansas will travel to face Missouri on the same day.
