Aatu Räty’s Inaugural NHL Season
Aatu Räty, the 23-year-old forward for the Vancouver Canucks, is navigating his inaugural full season in the NHL, having accumulated 48 games played this year. With just 18 matches left in the 2025-26 season, he is approaching a significant milestone, poised to cross the 100-career game threshold. This year marks a departure from Räty’s previous seasons where he split his time between the NHL and the AHL, specifically with the Abbotsford Canucks and the Bridgeport Islanders, totaling 169 games and netting 44 goals along with 119 points.
Transition to Full-Time NHL Player
Räty shared insights on the transition to being a full-time NHL player, emphasizing the adjustment to the rigorous daily schedule of life in the league.
“I’ve been getting more comfortable here, and I’m really learning a lot from the players and coaches, particularly in terms of improving my defensive play,”
he noted.
Faceoff Performance and Development
One key aspect of Räty’s development has been his impressive performance in faceoff situations. Among 118 players who have taken over 400 faceoffs this season, he ranks second in win percentage with an impressive 61.1%. This skill has not only enhanced his ice time but has also allowed him to be utilized in crucial defensive situations, including overtime scenarios.
“Winning faceoffs is definitely a strength of mine right now. I aim to keep improving and want to be recognized as one of the best in this area,”
Räty remarked.
Collaboration with Coaching Staff
As he works to expand his overall game, Räty is in close collaboration with the coaching staff to refine both personal skills and team tactics. He disclosed that the communication is ongoing, and they align on his developmental goals while focusing on teamwork dynamics as well.
“It’s essential to work on my skills, but playing effectively as part of the unit is crucial,”
he explained.

Looking at the remainder of the season, Räty is a player to watch as he further establishes himself within the Canucks’ lineup. In addition to his faceoff prowess, he’s also demonstrated his physicality on the ice with 114 hits, indicating his all-around game is progressing well.
