Support for Ruben Amorim
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, co-owner of Manchester United, has expressed his willingness to provide Ruben Amorim with ample time to turn around the fortunes of the club. Despite facing scrutiny during his 10-month tenure, which has resulted in only ten victories in the Premier League, Ratcliffe remains steadfast in his belief that Amorim deserves time to demonstrate his capabilities as a coach.
Pressure and Patience
The mounting pressure on the 40-year-old coach has led to calls for his dismissal from certain corners of the fanbase. However, Ratcliffe referenced the slow-building success of Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta as a model for patience that he would like to emulate.
“Ruben needs to show his worth over a three-year period,”
Ratcliffe stated during an appearance on The Times’ “The Business” podcast. He emphasized,
“Football does not yield instant results.”
Long-term Vision
Although Amorim has faced challenges, including a current win rate of 40%, which is the lowest for any permanent manager at Manchester United since the 1970s under Frank O’Farrell, Ratcliffe insists that he will not rush to make decisions. He noted,
“Sometimes the press seeks immediate outcomes, expecting success to come at the flip of a switch. That’s simply unrealistic.”
Ratcliffe’s commitment to giving Amorim until the end of his contract in 2027 indicates a long-term vision as the club navigates through this challenging phase.
Recent Success
Following a recent 2-0 victory over Sunderland, Amorim celebrated his 50th match in charge, bringing a momentary lift to the atmosphere at Old Trafford.
