Quentin Grimes Signs $8.7 Million Contract to Continue with the 76ers After Impressive Season

Quentin Grimes Signs Contract with Philadelphia 76ers

Quentin Grimes has secured his future with the Philadelphia 76ers by signing a one-year contract valued at $8.7 million, as reported by Shams Charania of ESPN. This deal comes on the heels of a stellar performance during the latter part of the 2024-25 season, where Grimes emerged as a pivotal player for a 76ers team plagued by injuries.

Performance Highlights

In his time with Philadelphia, Grimes showcased his scoring ability, averaging 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 1.2 steals across 28 games, of which he started 25. The 76ers had acquired him from the Dallas Mavericks just before the trade deadline in exchange for forward Caleb Martin, alongside a 2025 second-round draft pick.

Prior to joining the Sixers, Grimes had played in 47 games with the Mavericks and, while not as explosive, he did average a solid 10.2 points during his stint there, highlighted by a career-best 39.8% shooting from three-point territory.

Shooting and Scoring Achievements

Though his three-point shooting dropped slightly to 37.3% in Philadelphia, Grimes remained an effective scorer, making 82 three-pointers in total. The 6-foot-4 player transcended his reputation as merely a shooter; he completed his first-ever season with over 1,000 points, surpassing the 300 field goal mark for the first time by registering a remarkable 384 made shots, of which only 42.2% were three-pointers.

Consistency and Breakout Performances

Notably, Grimes was consistent on the court, achieving 20 or more points in 23 games and reaching 30-plus points on five occasions. His breakout included memorable performances such as a 44-point game against the Golden State Warriors on March 1 and a career-high 46 points coupled with 13 rebounds in a dramatic overtime loss to the Houston Rockets later in March.

Career Journey

Originally drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers as the 25th overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Grimes was traded shortly thereafter to the New York Knicks in exchange for Keon Johnson, whom the Knicks had selected at No. 21. He spent the first part of his career in New York before being traded to the Detroit Pistons in February 2024, where he played only six games due to knee issues. Detroit then dealt him to the Mavericks for Tim Hardaway Jr. and several future picks.

Looking Ahead

Now, with a new contract in hand following a noteworthy season with the 76ers, Grimes is poised to continue his career trajectory in Philadelphia, establishing himself as a key player for the franchise’s future.
