Button offered high praise for Schmidt, calling him a dynamo with tremendous athleticism and skating ability, complemented by a powerful shot. Notably, despite his scoring potential—Button believed he could have tallied 55 goals this season—Schmidt focused on developing other facets of his game.
“I commend him for broadening his skillset at such a young age,” Button noted.
International Performance and Future Outlook
Recently, Schmidt also demonstrated his capabilities on an international stage during the 2025 IIHF U-18 World Junior Championship, helping Team Canada secure gold with two goals and two assists over seven games. Button ranks him as the 17th-best player in the draft, noting,
“While he may not possess the ideal size, his combination of speed and skill makes him an intriguing option.”
Despite his smaller stature potentially impacting his draft stock, Schmidt’s agility and scoring acumen could make him a valuable addition to the Flyers. However, some concerns linger regarding how effectively his game will translate to the professional level. As he transitions to the NHL, he will need to increase his strength to excel in more physically demanding situations.
