Pochettino Addresses Tottenham Rumors: ‘It’s Not a Realistic Scenario’

Coach Pochettino Addresses Tottenham Speculation

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. — Mauricio Pochettino, the coach of the United States men’s national soccer team (USMNT), has firmly rejected the speculation surrounding his potential candidacy for the managerial position at Tottenham Hotspur, calling the notion “not realistic.” This statement comes after Spurs parted ways with Ange Postecoglou earlier this week, reigniting discussions about Pochettino’s connection to the club he previously managed.

Pochettino’s Thoughts on Persistent Rumors

“Whenever there is an opening for the head coach position at Tottenham, my name seems to pop up. I’ve noticed that I’m often mentioned among candidates, and I’ve also seen various lists with numerous coaches. But we need not concern ourselves with these rumors. If an opportunity were to arise, you would know about it, but for now, I believe this talk is quite far from reality. My focus remains where I am currently.”

Pochettino’s tenure at Tottenham from 2014 to 2019 included a remarkable run to the Champions League final. Subsequently, he managed Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea before taking the helm at USMNT in September 2024, where his aim is to prepare the team for the 2026 World Cup, set to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Commitment to USMNT and Tottenham’s Future

Despite his affection for Tottenham and acknowledgment of its significant role in his career, he reiterated his commitment to the national team at this time. Reports indicate that current Brentford manager Thomas Frank and Fulham’s Marco Silva are front-runners to succeed Postecoglou, with Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola also in consideration for the managerial position at Spurs.

Notably, Spurs secured their first major title since 2008 by winning the 2024-25 Europa League, albeit finishing the Premier League season in a disappointing 17th place.
