These honorees will be celebrated in a special ceremony prior to the Penguins’ matchup against the Columbus Blue Jackets on October 25.
Inductee Highlights
Scott Bowman, who began his affiliation with the team as Director of Player Personnel in the 1990-91 season, played a pivotal role in the franchise’s history by stepping in as head coach for the following two seasons, leading the team to its second Stanley Cup victory during the 1991-92 season.
Eddie Johnston’s involvement with the Penguins spans almost fifty years, showcasing his versatility as he held various influential roles such as head coach, general manager, and senior advisor. Notably, as general manager, he was instrumental in drafting hockey legend Mario Lemieux as the first overall pick in 1984, and he also orchestrated trades that brought in key players like Paul Coffey and Kevin Stevens. His coaching record boasts 232 wins, placing him third in the team’s coaching history, behind Mike Sullivan and Dan Bylsma.
Kevin Stevens enjoyed two stints with the Penguins, from 1987 to 1995 and again from 2000 to 2002, during which he played a vital part in securing back-to-back Stanley Cups in the early 1990s. He concluded his time with the team having scored 260 goals and accumulated 555 points across 522 games. His peak performance came during the 1991-92 season when he netted 54 goals and collected 123 points—a career-defining season for the athlete.
Ron Francis, who joined the Penguins in 1991 after a trade with the Hartford Whalers, had a significant eight-year tenure with the team, contributing to their consecutive Stanley Cup wins. Acknowledged for his defensive prowess, he earned the Selke Trophy in the 1994-95 season. Over his time with the Penguins, he appeared in 533 games, recording 164 goals and an impressive 613 points. Currently, Francis holds the position of president of hockey operations for the Seattle Kraken, and he ranks fifth on the NHL’s all-time points leaderboard with a total of 1,798.
