Pittsburgh Penguins Reassign Two Forwards as Olympic Break Begins

Pittsburgh Penguins Roster Adjustments

As the Olympic break commences, the Pittsburgh Penguins are making adjustments to their roster by sending two forwards back to their AHL team, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Players Reassigned

Avery Hayes and Rutger McGroarty are the players being reassigned. Hayes, who made an impressive debut in the NHL prior to the Penguins’ game against the Buffalo Sabres, managed to score two goals during that match, contributing to a convincing 5-2 win for Pittsburgh.

Now, he aims to carry the energy from his debut into his continued play at the AHL level where, this season, he has accumulated 13 goals and 10 assists through 31 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

McGroarty’s Performance

McGroarty, the Penguins’ first-round pick from 2022, has had a modest performance at the NHL level this season, tallying five points on two goals and three assists across 20 appearances. However, he has shown his potential in the AHL, contributing four goals and eight assists in just nine games.

Strategic Moves

These roster moves reflect the Penguins’ strategy of giving their young talent the opportunity to gain further experience during this pause in the NHL schedule.
