J.T. Realmuto Signs Three-Year Deal with Phillies

In a significant move for the Philadelphia Phillies, catcher J.T. Realmuto has officially committed to a three-year deal valued at $45 million. This agreement, finalized on Tuesday, secures Realmuto a salary of $15 million per year for the duration of the contract, in addition to the potential for up to $5 million in performance-related bonuses.

Bonus Opportunities

Realmuto’s bonus opportunities are quite generous, including $2 million if he receives All-Star election status and $1 million for selection. Furthermore, he could earn an additional $1 million each for winning a Gold Glove or Silver Slugger award, alongside a chance to secure $2 million for placing in the top ten of the MVP voting.

Realmuto’s Career Highlights

This announcement comes as Realmuto, who is set to celebrate his 35th birthday in March, continues to solidify his reputation as one of the premier catchers in Major League Baseball. Over the past season, he maintained a batting average of .257, hitting 12 home runs and driving in 52 runs across 134 games, tying for the most games played by a catcher in the league. This contract extends from the final year of his previous five-year, $115.5 million contract.

Realmuto boasts a strong career track record, including three All-Star selections and two Gold Glove awards, and has compiled a .270 lifetime batting average, 180 home runs, and 677 RBIs during his 12-year tenure, which includes time with both the Miami Marlins and the Phillies.

Phillies’ Offseason Moves

Additionally, the Phillies have been active this offseason, securing deals with right-handed pitcher Brad Keller for $22 million over two years and acquiring outfielder Adolis García for $10 million over one year. In a move to create roster space, infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson has been designated for assignment.

As the Phillies prepare for the season ahead, the retention of key players like Realmuto and Schwarber, who recently signed a five-year, $150 million deal, signifies the team’s commitment to competing in the league.
