Nurmagomedov and Hughes first squared off in January 2023 at a PFL Champions Series event, battling fiercely until the final bell in what was considered a potential contender for Fight of the Year. In that encounter, Nurmagomedov retained his PFL lightweight title through a majority decision, a result that left many feeling it should have favored Hughes.
Path to Rematch
Despite a desire for a rematch, the two fighters were not immediately set to clash again, with Hughes instead taking on Bruno Miranda in May. Hughes dominated that fight, securing a first-round knockout, and subsequently called for another opportunity at the unbeaten Nurmagomedov.
Event Details
This impending rematch will be held in the same venue as their initial fight, promising added excitement with a robust supporting card. Joining them will be Corey Anderson taking on Dovlet Yagshimuradov in a rematch of their previous bout during the Bellator World Grand Prix, as well as Lobov, who’s coming back to the MMA spotlight after competing in bare-knuckle boxing since 2018.
