Pep Guardiola shares aspirations for international coaching, including World Cup dreams

Pep Guardiola’s Aspirations for National Team Management

Pep Guardiola, renowned for his success as the head coach of Manchester City, has shared his aspirations of taking charge of a national team at a World Cup tournament. Although he has achieved remarkable success at club level, amassing a total of 39 titles, including three Champions League victories, he has yet to venture into international management.

Guardiola’s Background and Quotes

During his playing days, Guardiola represented Spain in 47 matches, but he has never pursued a coaching role at the international level. In a conversation with Reuters, he enthusiastically stated his ambitions:

“I would love to be in a World Cup, in a Euro, a Copa America. I’ve always thought about it. But it depends on many, many things. If it happens, it’s fine. If it doesn’t happen, it’s more than fine as well.”

Despite his interest in coaching on the international stage, the 54-year-old is not in a hurry to make any abrupt career moves. Having finished third in the Premier League last season, trailing Liverpool by 13 points, Guardiola has committed to Manchester City for the long run.

Commitment to Manchester City

In November 2024, he extended his contract, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2027, allowing him to complete over a decade at the Etihad Stadium.

Reflecting on his extension, Guardiola admitted:

“I want to be honest. I thought this season should be the last one. But the problems we had in the last month made me feel now is not the time to leave. I didn’t want to let the club down.”

Since his arrival in Manchester in 2016, Guardiola has led City to an impressive 18 trophies and achieved a historic treble during the 2022-23 season, capturing the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup titles all in one year.

Looking Ahead

As he continues to build on his legacy at the club, the prospect of an international role remains an alluring, albeit distant, goal.
