Penske Motorsports’ Porsche achieves historic Rolex 24 victory, shining amid setbacks

Team Penske’s Year of Struggles and Triumphs

In a year marked by significant struggles for Team Penske, the Porsche Penske Motorsports program emerged as a beacon of hope. After a disappointing season in IndyCar where the team managed only two wins and faced a setback during Indianapolis 500 inspections that led to the dismissal of three high-profile executives, the organization shifted focus toward its sports car performance. A three-season championship streak in NASCAR also came to a halt when Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney—previous Cup Series champions—failed to qualify for the final race. Despite securing six wins throughout the season, Blaney’s sixth place in the standings was the team’s top achievement in a challenging year.

Renewed Optimism and Historic Wins

However, a new season brings renewed optimism, coinciding with Team Penske’s 60th anniversary. The sports car division kicked off the year on a jubilant note by securing its third consecutive victory at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, a prestigious endurance race.

“Winning the 24 Hours of Daytona three times in a row with this exceptional team is a remarkable feat. Such sustained success is built on teamwork, determined drivers, and a driven crew committed to victory,”

Roger Penske remarked at the Daytona International Speedway.

The accomplishment not only underlines the strength of the Porsche program but also reinforces the longstanding legacy of Team Penske, which has seen success at this event since its inception. Brazilian driver Felipe Nasr is a key part of this success as the only constant in the trio of winning Rolex teams over the last three years; he has contributed to a remarkable trend where a Brazilian driver has been integral to the victorious lineup for six years straight, following Helio Castroneves‘s participation in the earlier wins. This quest for victory also places Penske in an exclusive club as only the third team in 64 years to win the Rolex three times in a row, alongside Chip Ganassi Racing and Wayne Taylor Racing.

Looking Ahead: Changes and Challenges

Reflecting on his recruitment of Nasr, Penske humorously recounted how their initial meeting took place in a discreet parking lot. Nasr, who was racing for a championship with Action Express Racing at the time, arrived in a suit—appropriately demonstrating his commitment, even if it led to an uncomfortable sweaty situation caused by unexpectedly warm weather.

Despite the triumphant Rolex win, uncertainties loom over Team Penske as it heads into 2026. The organization faces significant changes with a new sports car lineup and a revamped IndyCar team, welcoming 24-year-old David Malukas in place of veteran Will Power, who is now with Andretti Global. The NASCAR program will remain steady, but a new postseason format could present challenges for Logano and Blaney, both of whom thrived under the previous structure.

While predicting the upcoming season remains complex—especially following the turmoil encountered during the Indy 500—the victory at Daytona is a powerful statement of Penske’s ongoing dedication to reclaiming dominance across all its racing programs.
