Paul Pogba’s Transition to AS Monaco
Paul Pogba is on the verge of a transition to AS Monaco, as he is slated to undergo a medical examination on Friday. This comes after reports emerged on June 13 regarding the club’s interest in securing the French midfielder.
Recent Challenges and Suspension
Pogba, who is now a free agent following a mutual agreement with Juventus to part ways in November 2024, has faced significant challenges in recent years due to a doping suspension. After being banned for four years due to a failed anti-doping test, his suspension was later reduced to 18 months on appeal, allowing him to return to training in January and to competitive matches by March.
During his ban, he was speculated to be considering a move to Major League Soccer (MLS), particularly as he made appearances at several games, with D.C. United holding his discovery rights.
Monaco’s Potential Signings
In addition to Pogba’s imminent signing, Monaco seems poised to acquire Ansu Fati on loan from Barcelona, with Fati also set to undergo medical assessments at the club. Last season, Monaco completed their Ligue 1 campaign in third place, trailing behind Marseille and the champions, Paris Saint-Germain.
Pogba’s Career Overview
Despite having 91 caps for the French national team, Pogba has yet to play professionally in France, having joined Manchester United’s youth academy from Le Havre. His career took off after making his debut for MUFC in October 2011, where he initially struggled for playing time before moving to Juventus.
At Juventus, he flourished, collecting four consecutive Serie A titles and achieving a Champions League runner-up finish in 2015. In the summer of 2016, he made headlines with a return to Manchester United for a staggering fee of €110 million (£93.2 million). However, his time was marred by injuries, and he eventually rejoined Juventus on a free transfer six years later. In the last season, he only featured in 10 matches, partially hampered by his previous ban.
