Paul Pogba’s Return to French Football
In a heartfelt presentation at AS Monaco, Paul Pogba expressed his intention to reclaim a position on the French national squad despite acknowledging that such a comeback involves a process with distinct phases. The midfielder, who previously showcased his talents with Manchester United and Juventus, recently joined Monaco on a free transfer after completing an 18-month suspension due to a positive test for DHEA, a performance-enhancing substance that elevates testosterone levels.
Reflecting on His Journey
During his introduction on Thursday, Pogba reflected on the universal aspiration of French footballers to don the national team jersey, emphasizing,
“Today I’m at stage one — coming back and performing well,”
while hinting at the competitive nature of the team’s roster. The seasoned player has made 91 appearances for France, with his latest match occurring in March 2022, and his last club outing with Juventus behind him in September 2023.
Commitment to Monaco
Seeking to revitalize his career, Pogba has committed to a two-year deal with Monaco, reportedly declining a substantial offer from a club in the Saudi Pro League.
“There are spots to be won and you have to earn them because it’s a very, very good group, a great team,”
he added, underscoring his determination to prove himself.
Support from Peers
Joining Pogba at the presentation was Eric Dier, a former defender for Tottenham Hotspur, who expressed enthusiasm about the impact Pogba’s return could have not only on Monaco but on the broader landscape of French football.
“It’s very exciting for the club and the league,”
Dier stated, recalling his previous encounters with Pogba and acknowledging his immense talent.
