Patrick Agyemang of the USMNT sidelined with injury, awaiting medical evaluation

Injury Update on Patrick Agyemang

During Derby County’s recent victory over Stoke City, U.S. forward Patrick Agyemang had to be taken off the field on a stretcher following a non-contact injury in the first half. The 25-year-old is scheduled for a medical scan to ascertain the extent of the injury he sustained after falling awkwardly during the game.

Manager’s Concerns

Manager John Eustace expressed concern for the player’s condition, emphasizing that the team must await the results of the tests to determine how serious it may be.

“He’s gone off for a scan. We really hope it is not severe, but until we have the scan results, we are in limbo,”

Eustace remarked.

Impact on the U.S. Men’s National Team

Agyemang’s fitness is particularly crucial with the World Cup just around the corner, scheduled to begin in two months. His absence from the U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) roster could significantly impact their lineup, especially after he scored for the national team in a recent match against Belgium, despite the team’s loss.

Since joining Derby County from Charlotte FC last summer, Agyemang has made a strong impression in his first season in Europe, tallying 10 goals and three assists in 37 Championship matches, making him one of the top scorers for the team this season. With Carlton Morris leading the scoring chart, Agyemang ranks just behind him.

World Cup Preparations

As U.S. head coach Mauricio Pochettino considers options for his squad, Agyemang was viewed as a potential backup to current starter Folarin Balogun of AS Monaco, competing against other forwards such as Ricardo Pepi from PSV Eindhoven and Haji Wright from Coventry City.

The USMNT is set to kick off their World Cup Group D campaign against Paraguay on June 12, and Pochettino is anticipated to reveal the final roster by May 26, ahead of preparatory matches against Senegal and Germany.
