Pat Brown Triumphs Over Ducar to Claim Titles As Shock Knockout Claims Thompson

Thrilling Night of Boxing at Planet Ice

In a thrilling night of boxing held at Planet Ice in Altrincham, Pat Brown continued his impressive streak by defeating seasoned Czech cruiserweight Vasil Ducar in the eighth round, securing both the WBA International and IBF Intercontinental titles. Brown, who has now achieved six consecutive knockouts in his career, methodically dismantled Ducar, dropping him twice before the referee intervened to end the bout. Known for his resilience, Ducar had previously gone the full distance against many notable fighters, but he couldn’t withstand the relentless pressure applied by Brown.

Post-Match Insights

After the match, the 26-year-old Brown emphasized his strategic approach, asserting that he wasn’t focused on a quick finish for the audience’s sake.

“I understood he would be a tough opponent, which is why I paced myself at the start. This performance means more to me than a premature stoppage would,”

Brown explained alongside his friend Dave Allen.

Amid ongoing discussions about a potential showdown with British cruiserweight contender John Hedges, Brown expressed skepticism regarding the likelihood of that match coming together, citing logistical challenges.

“I was keen to face John tonight, but due to politics, that didn’t work out. I’ve moved on from that in my mind. If he can take on Ducar and prove he’s on my level, then I’d be open to fighting him,”

he stated.

Promoter’s Praise and Future Matchups

Prominent promoter Eddie Hearn praised Ducar’s role in delivering the kind of challenge Brown required at this point in his career.

“Ducar was the ideal opponent with the experience to provide Pat with valuable rounds. For him to stop a fighter who has faced world-class competition is a commendable achievement,”

Hearn remarked. He noted that a future matchup between Brown and Hedges could still develop if both fighters continue their paths successfully.

Notable Upsets and Highlights

The evening featured a notable upset as well, with France’s David Spilmont handing former cruiserweight world title contender Jordan Thompson a shocking knockout loss. Thompson, who had been a favorite after contesting Jai Opetaia for the IBF cruiserweight title earlier this year, found himself overwhelmed and crashed to the canvas in the seventh round after a flurry of punches from Spilmont that prompted the referee to stop the fight.

Other highlights from the evening included William Crolla’s spectacular seventh-round knockout of Glenn Byrne, despite having been knocked down three times earlier in the fight. In another bout, Robbie Colman won by split decision over Josh Blenkiron in their Northern Area lightweight title rematch, evening their rivalry. Alfie Middlemiss also secured an eight-round points victory over Lewis Morris, while Welsh twins Ioan and Garan Croft both celebrated points victories in their Matchroom debuts, showcasing the depth of talent on display.
