Celebrating Ozan Baris’s Achievement
Michigan State’s tennis program is celebrating a significant achievement with Ozan Baris, who has been a standout player since his arrival at the university. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently recognized Baris as an All-American for the third consecutive year, an accolade given to student-athletes who reach the round of 16 in the NCAA Individual Championships or finish within the top 20 of the ITA singles rankings. Baris made the cut in both categories this past year.
Milestone for the Program
This accomplishment marks an important milestone not only for Baris but for the Michigan State tennis program as well, as he now represents three of the seven All-Americans in the history of the team—making him the most decorated player in the program’s history.
Team Performance Under Leadership
Under the leadership of head coach Harry Jadun, the Spartans achieved a competitive record of 17 victories against 10 losses this season, allowing them to progress to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row. Previously, they had not reached the tournament since Jadun’s sophomore year during the 2012-2013 season.
Outstanding Individual Accomplishments
Baris notably advanced to the finals of the NCAA Individual Championships last fall, where he earned recognition as the runner-up after facing National Champion Michael Zheng from Columbia.
Conclusion
Celebrations are due for Baris on his remarkable feat of being named an All-American once again!
