Orlando Magic’s Desmond Bane faces $35,000 fine for throwing ball at OG Anunoby during Knicks game

Desmond Bane Fined for Unsportsmanlike Conduct

Desmond Bane, a player for the Orlando Magic, has been penalized by the NBA with a hefty fine of $35,000 following an incident during a recent game against the New York Knicks. This decision comes in the wake of Bane’s unsportsmanlike behavior, where he threw a basketball at Raptors forward OG Anunoby during a close matchup that ended with the Knicks winning 106-100.

Incident Details

The incident unfolded midway through the fourth quarter. Bane was in pursuit of Anunoby on a fast break when Jalen Suggs made an impressive block. Both players fell to the ground, and in what can only be described as an impulsive reaction, Bane picked up the ball and hurled it forcefully at Anunoby’s back. Despite not being out of bounds himself, Bane seemed to exaggerate his motions and pointed at the officials, attempting to claim the ball was out on Anunoby.

This confrontation sparked a brief scuffle, leading Anunoby to retaliate by pushing Bane. However, the situation was swiftly diffused, though Bane was penalized with a technical foul for his actions, allowing the game to resume.

Previous Incidents and Performance

This is not the first time Bane has found himself in hot water over his conduct on the court this season. Just last month, the Magic guard was ejected from a game against the Atlanta Hawks after throwing a ball in the direction of Onyeka Okongwu, resulting in both a flagrant foul and a technical foul.

In the recent game, Bane scored 16 points, contributing to the Magic’s efforts, but it was not enough to clinch a victory. Bane has been averaging 18.3 points, 4.5 assists, and 4.4 rebounds in what is his first season with the Magic. His teammate, Jalen Suggs, led the team with 17 points in the defeat.

Game Highlights and Upcoming Matches

On the winning side, Knicks player Jalen Brunson turned in a stellar performance, scoring 30 points along with nine assists, while Anunoby added 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds for Toronto. Orlando’s struggle was exacerbated by the loss of star player Franz Wagner, who suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter and is anticipated to be sidelined for several weeks.

As the Magic’s record now stands at 14-10, they are set to face the Miami Heat in their next game on Tuesday night.
