O’Reilly Celebrates Young Talent Brady Martin’s Skill and Enthusiasm at Predators Training Camp

Ryan O’Reilly on Promising Talent Brady Martin

Ryan O’Reilly, sporting a gap-toothed smile, shared his thoughts at the Nashville Predators training camp about the promising new talent, Brady Martin. The 18-year-old was selected fifth in the overall pick during the 2025 NHL Draft and is determined to secure a place on the Predators’ roster following an eventful summer of training. O’Reilly, now embarking on his 18th season in the NHL, is particularly struck by Martin’s enthusiasm, skill set, and infectious positivity.

Reflections on Youthful Excitement

“It brings back memories of my early days at training camp. He radiates energy and joy, which is refreshing to observe.”

Reflecting on Martin’s youthful excitement, O’Reilly noted this sentiment. When comparing their early careers, O’Reilly humorously admitted that Martin showcases a level of talent that surpasses his own at that age, specifically highlighting Martin’s superior skating abilities.

“He’s clearly more skilled than I was back then. I was rather clumsy on the ice while he glides effortlessly,”

O’Reilly remarked with a laugh.

Martin’s Summer Training

This summer, Martin dedicated his off-ice training to enhancing his explosiveness through intense workouts, including sessions with a track coach, which he believes has been pivotal for his skating performance.

“We focused on explosive movements along with some skating drills. I’ve sharpened my skills quite a bit,”

Martin explained.

Impressive Skills on the Ice

O’Reilly also noted Martin’s impressive puck control during drills, a characteristic that contributed to his high draft position. In junior leagues, Martin’s physical strength allowed him to maintain possession, something O’Reilly wished he had mastered early in his own career.

“His ability in those close-quarter battles and his strength on the stick is evident. It’s the kind of strength that can make a real difference on the ice,”

O’Reilly commented, referring to the resilient ‘farm boy strength’ that Martin exhibits.

Facing Challenges

Martin faced a robust challenge in Friday’s scrimmage against 6-foot-6 Michael McCarron, who he acknowledged was formidable.

“McCarron is tough to go against, but I’m learning from him. It’s about picking up on his strategies and trying to outmaneuver him. It’s a valuable challenge,”

Martin said.

Goals for the Season

Both players are integral to enhancing the Predators’ center strength, especially with O’Reilly likely to anchor the first line this season. For Martin, the immediate goal remains to demonstrate his worth to the coaching staff as he battles for a roster spot.

“I’m committed to giving my all every chance I get, working hard to showcase what I can contribute to the team,”

he affirmed.
