In a thrilling matchup on Sunday, No. 16 Oklahoma managed to fend off a potential upset by defeating unranked Auburn, finishing the contest with a score of 72-65. Aaliyah Chavez was a standout performer for the Sooners, contributing 18 points in the victory, which followed an impressive overtime win against No. 2 South Carolina earlier in the week.

Throughout the game, the action was tight, particularly in the final quarter where Auburn’s A’riel Jackson shone, scoring seven points early on and helping the Tigers tie the game at 57 with six minutes left. Harissoum Coulibaly also made an impact, with her layup equalizing the score at various points in the closing minutes. However, despite their efforts, Auburn only managed to score an additional six points after tying the game and could not reclaim the lead.

In addition to Chavez’s performance, Oklahoma had contributions from Sahara Williams and Raegan Beers, each adding 13 points to the scoreboard. Brooklyn Stewart provided valuable support off the bench with 12 points. The game began with Oklahoma’s strong start, as they closed the first quarter with a 7-0 run to establish a 19-12 advantage. In the second quarter, Jackson quickly narrowed the gap for Auburn by scoring the first points, and a subsequent six-point run even allowed the Tigers to temporarily take their first lead at 27-25. However, a series of three-pointers from Chavez helped the Sooners regain control, leading 35-30 at halftime.

Although Auburn made a push in the third quarter with Petticord scoring the first eight points, Oklahoma extended their lead to 47-38. By the end of the third quarter, they were ahead 53-48 before closing out the game strong.
