Ohio State Women’s Basketball Triumphs Over Nebraska
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — In a strong display of talent, Jaloni Cambridge poured in 30 points and dished out six assists, leading the 11th-ranked Ohio State women’s basketball team to a commanding 90-71 victory over Nebraska on Sunday night. Chance Gray contributed significantly as well, hitting five of her ten attempts from beyond the arc for a total of 21 points.
Game Highlights
The Buckeyes (20-3, 9-2 Big Ten) seized control of the game early in the second quarter when Jaloni and her sister, Kennedy Cambridge, nailed consecutive three-pointers, establishing a 25-20 lead. Ohio State maintained this advantage throughout the remainder of the match. In stark contrast, Nebraska (16-6, 5-6 Big Ten), which enjoyed a promising start to the season with a 12-game winning streak, has now faced adversity, suffering four straight defeats and losing six of their past eight games. Notably, the Cornhuskers are still seeking their first win against a Top-25 opponent this season.
Player Performances
Gray, a senior guard standing 5-foot-9, previously played for Oregon before transferring to Ohio State where she has accumulated 1,509 career points. Kennedy Cambridge made her mark with a solid contribution of 12 points, eight rebounds, and a remarkable seven steals, bringing her season total to 94 steals— the most by any Buckeye since the 1992-93 season, and still 21 short of Yvette Angel’s program record of 115 steals set in the 1984-85 season.
For Nebraska, Amiah Hargrove was the standout, scoring 24 points, while Britt Prince and Logan Nissley added 12 and 11 points respectively. Prince, impressive at the foul line, has hit 47 consecutive free throws, converting all 45 attempts in conference play this season.
Injury Updates
Ohio State, however, continues to grapple with injury issues, as freshman Kylee Kitts, who was redshirting at Florida last season, missed her fourth consecutive game. Despite her absence, she had been averaging 9.3 points and leading the team with 7.1 rebounds per game. Nebraska also faced challenges with Jessica Petrie, a 6-foot-2 junior who averages 11.9 points and a team-best 1.1 blocks, sidelined for her second straight game due to illness.
Upcoming Matches
Up next, Nebraska will visit No. 9 Michigan on Wednesday, while Ohio State is scheduled to take on No. 25 Washington this Thursday.
