Northwestern Secures Thrilling Victory Against Oregon
In a thrilling contest on Saturday afternoon, Northwestern secured a narrow 63-62 victory against Oregon, thanks to a last-minute shot from Nick Martinelli. The game, held in Evanston, Illinois, saw Martinelli, who finished with a personal-best of 22 points, making a pivotal basket just 1.8 seconds before the final buzzer.
“After a timeout called with eight seconds remaining, Northwestern found themselves trailing 62-61. Martinelli received the inbound pass, skillfully maneuvered around his defender, and executed a left-handed hook shot that rolled around the rim before dropping in.”
Oregon had a chance to respond as Takai Simpkins launched a half-court attempt, but the shot clanged off the top of the backboard, sealing the win for the Wildcats. In addition to his scoring, Martinelli also recorded 11 rebounds and seven assists in what was undoubtedly a standout performance for him and the team, which now boasts a 13-16 overall record and a 5-13 standing in the Big Ten. Jayden Reid contributed with 11 points.
