Abbotsford Canucks Face Setback with Nils Åman’s Injury
The Abbotsford Canucks are facing yet another setback as forward Nils Åman has been sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a toe injury. According to Rick Dhaliwal from “Donnie and Dhali,” Åman suffered a broken toe during the weekend, effectively ending his season. With only two remaining games to play, both of which will take place away from home, the Canucks will have to adjust without one of their leading scorers.
Åman’s Performance This Season
Over his four-year tenure with the Canucks organization, this season Åman played a total of 55 games in the AHL while also making two appearances in the NHL. He finished the season as Abbotsford’s highest scorer with 41 points, including 35 assists that ranked him among the top playmakers in the league, landing him at 22nd overall.
This season marked the latter half of a two-year contract extension Åman signed in 2023. As he prepares for the off-season, he will be a restricted free agent possessing arbitration rights. Throughout his NHL career, which spans 132 games, Åman has managed to score eight goals and accumulate 29 points. His performance with Abbotsford has been notable, tallying 95 points in just 123 games, placing him in the top tier for both points and assists within the team.
Åman’s Journey and Future
Originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in 2020, Åman later joined the Canucks as a free agent in 2022, contributing significantly to the team’s efforts in both the AHL and NHL. As the injury brings a premature end to his season, fans and analysts alike will be keenly observing how this impacts the Canucks in the remaining games and Åman’s future with the organization.
